Summer Skin Care Tips
Summer skin care tips must be included in your anti aging skin care regime. Don't go blindly into summer without this information to help keep your skin healthy and lovely while outside.
When summer is just around the corner, it is time to take a good look at the shape of your skin. If you have gone all winter, buried under clothes, hidden inside dry warm buildings, your skin is probably not in very good shape.
First plan of attack would be to gently get rid of some of the old, dead and dried out skin cells. Do a gentle exfoliating of your skin using a washcloth or loofah with a chemical or physical peel. Do this initially once a week at most, more often as summer approaches and your skin's oil content is restored. Even folks with dry skin can benefit from exfoliating, if not overdone.
Secondly, moisturize your skin. As the days get warmer and more humid, the moisture content in you skin increases and it may be necessary to change up your moisturizer, using one that is non-comedogenic, and water-based or hyaluronic acid based not oil based.
Photoaging is the first sign we tend to notice of skin damage. While the tanned skin that we love is caused mostly by Ultraviolet Type B rays, the photoaging process is caused by Ultraviolet Type A rays. These UVA rays penetrate deep into the layers of our skin and cause damage to the collagen fibers. This damage shows up in wrinkles and causes the skin to be tough and leathery looking. The photoaging process is also what gives us age spots or as some call them, "liver spots". Unchecked and neglected this photoaging process can even advance to skin cancer.
To guard against photoaging a sunscreen of at least SPF 15 should be worn year round, but especially during the summer. It is important to guard your skin from sun damage and you should never get a burn. Make sure your sunscreen contains agents that protect against UVA and UVB rays. Sunscreen should be applied before going outside and should be re-applied often while in the sun.
